4 out of 5 Book 1 - Fallen What if the person you were meant to be with could never be yours? 17-year-old Lucinda falls in love with a gorgeous, intelligent boy, Daniel, at her new school; the grim, and foreboding Sword & Cross. Only to find out that Daniel is a fallen angel, and that they have spent lifetimes finding and losing one another as good & evil forces plot to keep them apart. I really loved this as a first book to a series, it had an amazing, refreshing taste to it as the grim characters matched the surroundings, the word usage and metaphorical language sucked me in so far; I started to fall in love with Daniel and Cameron !!! The world and ideals that continue on through the series are somewhat dense and confusing, however Miss Kate seems to explain them with such ease and grace that I felt as if I had known the myths and legends forever. |
4 out of 5 Book 2 - Torment How many lives do you need to live before you find someone worth dying for? In the aftermath of what happened at Sword & Cross, Luce has been hidden away by her cursed angelic boyfriend, Daniel, in a new school filled with Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans. Daniel promises she will be safe here, protected from those who would kill her. She soon discovers what the Shadows that have followed her all her life mean – and how to manipulate them to see into her other lives. Yet the more Luce learns about herself, the more she realizes that the past is her only key to unlocking her future . . . and that Daniel hasn't told her everything. What if his version of the past isn't actually the way things happened - what if Luce was really meant to be with someone else? This is the kind of sequel only Authors dream of; it did not copy or let down the first book - it became it's own. This book really explores the questions Luce has about her relationship with |
Really grabbed me from the beginning, and vamped me up even more than usual to read book 3 :)
5 out of 5 Book 3 - Torment It is really rare that I EVER give a book in a series a full rank if it's not either book 1 or the final book. However, this was BY FAR my favourite in the series. 'Every single lifetime, I'll choose you. Just as you have chosen me. Forever.’ Luce would die for Daniel. And she has. Over and over again. Throughout time, Luce and Daniel have found each other, only to be painfully torn apart: Luce dead, Daniel left broken and alone. But perhaps it doesn’t need to be that way . . . Luce is certain that something, or someone – in a past life can help her in her present. So she begins the most important journey of this lifetime - going back eternities to witness firsthand her romances with Daniel - and finally unlock the key to making their love last. Cam and the legions of angels and Outcasts are desperate to catch Luce, but none are as frantic as Daniel. He chases Luce through their shared pasts, terrified of what might happen if she rewrites history. Because their romance for the ages could go up in flames - forever. |
I felt that this book had a much stronger sense of romance; this was special because it threw a new depth of the genre into an already developed series making it multi-dimensional. In this book we are introduced to multiple Daniels and Luces throughout the ages and are shown their love and ultimate separation - Luce's death. I loved this super unique and entertaining focus of the story as I felt it again took it's own turn like book 2 did after 'Fallen'. Such an amazing book, you would not believe it's a third book, you'd think it to be a first or last with it's sheer awesomeness :)
4 out of 5 Book 3.5 - Fallen in Love It is rare that I give a 'filler/add-on novel' this kind of rating. However, I was truly impressed. This does NOT have to be read in any particular part of the series, or at all really. It does however give you a deeper glimpse into the Daniel/Luce dynamic. 'In a twist of fate, four extraordinary love stories combine over the course of a romantic Valentine's Day in Medieval England. Miles and Shelby find love where they least expect it. Roland learns a painful lesson about finding and losing love. Arianne pays the price for a love so fierce it burns. And for the first and last time, Daniel and Luce will spend a night together like none other. Lauren Kate's Fallen in Love is filled with love stories - the ones everyone has been waiting for. ' It is in a nutshell a full-length short story that accompanies the Fallen series, it gives us Daniel lovers an extra book to swoon over and truly leaves a deep mark on your heart as you feel and experience the pain or losing a soul mate. |
5 out of 5 Book 4 - Rapture This was by far the best book in the series, and that is saying a lot compared to the high ratings of the last 4 above. I really enjoyed this and was lucky enough to score the first-print edition (big copy) as I seem to have an addiction to getting the big editions of new books :P Time is running out, and in order to stop Lucifer from erasing the past, they must find the place where the Fall began. Only Luce can break the curse, and it is her choice alone that will decide all of their fates - but as Dark Forces gather, great sacrifices will have to be made in this final, epic struggle. In the fight for Luce, and for Love, who will win? I absolutely loved this epic conclusion, that had me turning pages at the speed of light. I loved the different locations, and plot twists and character changes and secret that I couldn't contain my excitement (embarrassing on a bus). I felt that this novel, took the focusses of the past 4 books; romance, action, sadness, discovery and mystery and mushed them all into this masterpiece. |
OVERALL
I truly enjoyed this series, it had me on the edge of my seat constantly and was just that kind of book that made you love each and every character despite their good vs. evil orientation. It took a very refreshing and mature approach to the entire angel mythology concept and was written in a very relatable yet literal fashion that made reading it; gorgeous and intriguing.
Well done Miss Kate
