7.5 out of 10 As you all well know by now, us bloggers here at Distracting Pages love discovering hidden gems on Wattpad, I felt with my renewed energy to post I'd share this secret obsession of mine with all of you “Madeline Stone knows where her future is heading-her family has that part all figured out. On her twenty-first birthday she is stealing a few moments back from her own life before relinquishing every part of herself to their plan. Jackson Rider is a southern boy who grew up with a football in hand. He has seen a lot in his time as a quarterback, but when Madeline stumbles her way into his life throwing the most unconventional passes-he can’t get the beautiful rookie out of his head. In life as in football, even the most solid plays can be intercepted.” |
Now this is a very cliché story, like super-duper cliché, however I loved it all the same, because when a cliché college romance is done well, you can’t go wrong. That’s why they’re cliché; because they’re something you hate to admit you enjoy, but love and reread them again and again and again. It has been a while since I read this, but it’s one of those romances that stays with you for a long time after you flick the last page closed.
I loved the character progression between Jackson and Maddy ‘Rookie’, they’re relationship stemmed from a very real mutual respect and passion for one another and to be honest, it was real and believable. They’re mistakes and apprehensions about being together made their intimacy and endgame that much sweeter because as a reader you felt as if they deserved it. I loved Jackson, he is the ultimate book boyfriend and really opened my eyes to the difficulties of being an adolescent male dealing with his own baggage while still trying to navigate college and growing up.
The imagery in this book was well maintained and the entire atmosphere and character list well developed without taking limelight away from the main characters. The entire complexity of the story was focussed in on the main protagonists and the various twists and turns of their budding relationship, which made it that much better to read.
I hate the books that take forever to get back to the main characters because it's talking about another character I couldn't give two sh*ts about to be honest; whereas this story correctly balances characters, plot lines and climaxes throughout the progression of the book.
This isn't a hugely difficult book to read and was nice to have on my phone to and from school, or when waiting between classes etcetera. I would definitely recommend this book to someone who loves indulging in the casual College Romance now and then, but wouldn't recommend it below the age of 15 minimal because with any college romance the relationship does get a bit heated at some points ;)
I will definitely be adding Miss White's other books to my library to read in the future, I do adore her style and it's good to find some Wattpad books without grammatical and spelling mistakes, making it that much more flowy to read and divulge into.
Well done Miss White,
All the best in the future
Hayley xx
